Art Experience

Here’s an opportunity for all of your artists! An extra chance to get your hands dirty and let your creativity shine through during the Art Experience. The Art Experience is taking place this year Wednesday mornings. It will be available to all grade levels at their provided session on the schedule below. It will be just as it is called an art experience for your child in addition to their weekly art class. Mrs. Amy Weber, art teacher, organizes Art Experience.

Battle of the Books

Orchard Lane's Battle of the Books program is designed to promote a love of reading among our students. It is for students in 5th and 6th grade. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book and takes the form of: Name of book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island. It is a fun, academic-based, competition designed to encourage students to read good books and have fun competing with peers.

Students in 5th and 6th grade are all invited to participate. Students form teams of three and receive a list of 15 book titles. Battles will begin the week of Nov. 14, and held during the lunch hour. The first round is a practice round and all teams will advance to the next level. The battles continue into December. Please look for more information to come in the next couple weeks!

Broadcast News Team

Fifth and sixth grade students have the opportunity to be a part of the broadcast video production team for the Orchard Lane News! Students write scripts, select music, and create themes each day for the show while working with programs such as Smart Notebook and PowerPoint. The Orchard Lane News team meets every morning at 8:30 a.m. to air a live show. Recess time will be used to write the script for the next day. Each student will be assigned a specific month. Dates are subject to change as the school year goes on.

Cub Scouts / Boy Scouts

The scout program is organized and run by OL parents. Information and permission slips are sent out to the grade levels with available scout groups at the start of the school year by the troop leaders. The troop leaders determine the days, times, and activities of the meetings. It is the responsibility of the parents to make sure the students know when to stay for scout meetings at the end of the school day and teachers have been informed that the student has permission to stay.

Girl Scouts

Mad Science

Mad Science is organized by an outside company for interested students. Classes run weekly, per semester. Flyers for registration are emailed in our school's weekly email update during each enrollment period. There is a fee for this program. Registration forms can be mailed directly to Mad Science. Spanish Club

Orchard Lane School partners with Futura Language Professionals. Futura is comprised of dynamic language professionals dedicated to the instruction of Spanish language and the cultures it represents. Classes are weekly and run per semester. Flyers for registration are emailed in our school's weekly email update during each enrollment period. There is a fee for this program.

Student Council

Student Council is comprised of 21 students from grades 4-6. Our members are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others within our school setting and with outreach to others in the community. All Student Council members are active participants in the ongoing cadres' we have running. These groups impact our communication to and from our student body through broadcast, bulletin boards, a web page, class meetings, photos and signage, all of which the kids orchestrate. Bake sales to fund the emergency relief of the Red Cross, penny drives to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and interests in recycling projects, are just a few ways these Stars shine. Student Council is a voice to be heard. They are an energetic group of leaders who believe in keeping our school a warm, caring place to learn and work.

Talent Show

The talent show is for students in grades fourth, fifth and sixth. If you have an unusual talent, like to sing or dance, the talent show is the perfect place to show your skills! Auditions for the talent show take place in February. Students who are interested can also help behind the scenes as part of the stage crew. They help with sound, props, publicity and stage managers. The show performance takes place in March. Mrs. Coyle, one of the fourth grade teachers, organizes this event for our school.
