What is Graphic Production?
Graphic Production, previously Printing and Publication, is a series of high school courses that immerses students in the creative, hands-on world of designing, modifying, and printing images on a variety of surfaces using a variety of materials and methods.
What skills will students learn and apply?
In the Graphic Production course series, students will learn the processes behind screen printing, offset printing, Gravure/Intaglio and flexography printing methods. They will also learn photo manipulation, vector art illustration, and page layout for production using Adobe Creative Cloud software. Students will continue to develop problem solving, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Students will learn to manage projects, set and meet goals, create action plans, manage personal behavior, manage work time, pay attention to image and project details, apply the design process, recognize accurate colors, use various materials and equipment safely, and apply different forms of digital technology.
How does Graphic Production connect to opportunities outside of high school?
The Graphic Production course series directly supports the Manufacturing and Arts, A/V Technology and Communications Program of Study. By the time a student completes the course sequence, they will have enough knowledge and skill to pursue an entry-level position in the printing and publishing industry. In these courses, students will continue to develop relevant skills that will connect to industry certifications, 2-year, and 4-year learning opportunities. As a future member of society, students will also cultivate a general awareness of the manufacturing processes involved in the production of printed products.
