Global Education Achievement Certificate
We live in an increasingly global community, so it is important for all students to be provided with learning opportunities that enable them to live, work, and interact in a global context.
Students in the School District of New Berlin now have the opportunity to earn recognition for demonstrated dedication to global education.
Supported by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, the Global Education Achievement Certificate is designed to recognize students who engage in experiences fostering global competencies both in and out of the classroom. This transcript recognition program supports student literacy as defined by the Common Core State Standards and provides a pathway for 21st Century Skills. Students who are eligible for this certificate will have successfully fulfilled the recommended criteria:
- 4 Credits/Years of a Single World Language
- 4 Credits of Coursework with a global Focus
- Complete a Review of at least 8 Works of International/Cultural Media
- Participate in at least 4 co-curricular or other school endorsed activities (such as International Exchange Program, Travel Abroad Program, Language Clubs, Language Immersion Programs, Running Internationally Themed events, etc.)
- Complete a Global/Cross-Cultural Public Service Project of at Least 20 Hours of Work
Students who qualify for this certificate will earn the designation of “Wisconsin Global Scholar” on their official high school transcript.
The Wisconsin Global Education Achievement Certificate is endorsed by the Statewide International Education Council, the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers (WAFLT), the Wisconsin Association of School District Administrators (WASDA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), and the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB).
This program is currently being supported through the World Language Department at both High Schools. Please contact your world language teacher or your counselor for more information.
